The Foreo UFO (Ur Future Obsession) is the world’s first smart mask treatment, according to the Swedish beauty tech firm which launched it earlier this year. The device offers spa-level facial treatments in just 90 seconds, combining LED light therapy with cryo-therapy, thermo-therapy and T-Sonic pulsations activated through your smartphone.
The company takes the latest professional beauty technologies available – treatments that can cost thousands of dollars – and incorporates them into one UFO device to unleash the full potential of their face masks, for results that are out of this world according to a company news release. Four years in development, the handheld device which is now available evenly distributes a custom sheet mask essence while various functions allow active ingredients to penetrate more deeply for superior results.
So exactly how does that happen? According to the release, the UFO uses hyper-infusion technology, which combines heat to open pores, T-Sonic™ pulsations to instantly infuse active ingredients into the skin and cryotherapy to seal and firm the skin. There’s also a range of LED light therapy treatments for three photofacials, including anti-aging (red LED), brightening (green LED) and anti-acne (blue LED). Each treatment incorporates a select combination of temperature and pulsation intensity for maximum effect and soothing facial massage.
The device works in tandem with specially invented UFO-activated sheet masks. The initial two masks, ‘Make My Day’ for deep hydration and pollution protection and the ‘Call It A Night’ which features ginseng and olive oil to nourish and revitalize the skin overnight, came pre-programmed into the device. For all the others, there’s an app you can get (for iOS and Android) to control pulsation, light and temperatures.
Retailing at US$279 (with a smaller version available for US$179), you can order it at FOREO.com.
In 2017, face masks made top billing in Google’s US skincare category of searched terms and accounted for more than 40% of online sales.
